I know it sounds gross and unpleasant to have snail mucin on your face as part of your skincare routine, but it’s not as bad as it sounds.
Today in this Ingredient 101 installment I am introducing you to this ingredient so that you’ll, hopefully, give it a try. Let’s go!
Snail mucin/filtrate/extract is the slimy stuff that the snail creates when it’s stressed out. If you’re looking at an ingredient label, it’s typically listed as “snail secretion filtrate”.
Snails use this goo to protect themselves from harsh environments, bacteria, weather, and other. It contains a whole variety of good-for-your-skin ingredients like glycolic acid, hyaluronic acid and unique glycoproteins, which are essential to your skin’s NMF, or natural moisture factor, the building blocks to healthy, glowing skin.
What benefits does it have on the skin?
When the snails release their signature slime, they do it to protect themselves. Hence it’s uniquely designed to protect and repair our skin. It contains growth factors which encourage collagen production, as well as glycolic acid, which also contributes to glowy, smooth skin.
Snail mucin also moisturizes the skin, thanks to those glycoproteins I mentioned earlier. These unique proteins are very similar to another skincare fave of mine (and hopefully of yours too, if not check out this blogpost because you are missing out), hyaluronic acid, as they can hold up to 1000 times their weight in water, giving you firm, supple skin.
What type of skin benefits the most from Snail Mucin?
All skin types would benefit from this ingredient but oily and acne prone skin would see the most benefits. Acne will heal better and scarring will fade faster. It also helps smooth out any texture on the skin that may have been caused by acne, dry patches, and/or irritated skin.
What skincare products uses this ingredient?
CosRX Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence.
If there is one skincare product that literally every single person alive needs in their arsenal, it’s this Cosrx snail essence. I’ve used it a while back, and recently reintroduced it into my routine. I’m not sure why I ever stopped, but now that it’s back in my life, I have no plans of ever taking it out.
It’s made with a whopping 96.3% snail extract filtrate and has that signature, slimy snail texture. But don’t worry, it doesn’t feel weird at all when you apply it and sinks into the skin almost immediately. Winter has been rough on my skin this year, but this baby has been a life saver! I like to apply it day and night, before my serums, but after my cleanser and hydrating toner. My skin looks healthy, glowing, and incredibly dewy since I’ve reintroduced this back into my routine.
CosRX Advanced Snail Peptide Eye Cream.
If you’ve noticed that you under eyes are dry and your concealer sit on your skin and exaggerates your fine lines. You absolutely need this.
This eye cream will bless your under eyes with suppleness and hydration. With a whooping concentration of 72% snail secretion filtrate, plus Niacinamide, this baby will boost collagen production and hydrate those fine lines away.
Thank you for being here and see you next week!!
